A piece of sustainable clothing should contribute to the solution of the problems of the global economy: health, economic, environmental and social issues. For economic change a circular economy or a sustainable economy that derives from the verb “sustain” is necessary. Let us remember that the verb “sustain” indicates long-term, maintenance, to take care especially of primary resources and the positive impact of industries in general. Therefore, for a piece that you buy it should be considered that you take care of your health, support a community or someone directly and that it does not harm the world when being produced or manufactured.

Alpaca fiber is sustainable

The alpaca is a domesticated animal. With a millennial history in Peru it is linked to the farmers and the artisans that shear the beloved domesticated pet because it is very close to the family. It even behaves like a puppy and kisses you! As a domesticated animal, it needs extra care, especially in extreme winter climates, during its reproduction and when being sheared. It needs to have its hair cut with special care to feels serene and clean. This is a very ancient tradition and forms a natural dynamic between the alpaca and the human being. The fiber is 100% natural and benefits the adequate temperature of your body. This is why there are people who wear a piece of alpaca for 10 or 15 years. They even use blankets made of alpaca fiber for their entire life.

Having a piece of natural fiber such as alpaca and how to wash it

A fashion piece, as its name says, goes out of style and gets dumped at some point in time. A piece like alpaca fiber can be a little more expensive than the average piece of synthetic clothing. However, the piece of alpaca fiber lasts and looks so fine, that it combines with various looks and styles. This is the case of chullos, scarves, blankets and all the varieties of pieces of alpaca fibers. The care is simple. You send it to the laundry to dry clean it or it can be washed by hand with cold water, with ph-neutral soap and dried in the shade while being spread out. Remember that it is an exotic and scarce fiber.

It is better to use natural fiber clothing and, in any case, mix it with fashion and synthetic pieces to save the world and create an #antifashion movement, to reduce excessive waste in the world and collaborate with the microeconomic sector all over the planet.
